Fine Fescues are at home in low maintenance areas and in both full sun and shade situations. Best suited to cooler climates, fine fescues are great in areas where trees compete for sunlight, water and nutrients. In full sun, they quickly adapt to short periods of heat and drought.
In shady areas and full sun situations, chewings, hard, and creeping red fescues mix well together with smooth stalked meadow grass and perennial ryegrass. Fine fescues typically fare well as mono-stands, or when mixed together for use in low maintenance areas.
For soil reclamation, roadsides and naturalized turf areas on golf courses, hard and blue hard fescues form a low growing dense turf with minimal seed head.
Chewings and hard fescues are very well suited to golf course fairway mixtures, and when used alone in roughs, create the environmentally-friendly 'Scottish dunes' appearance.
